Study, learning and motivation

I haven't studied for a long time - how do I develop good study skills?
You will find the library services have a number of items about study skills and learning, or you can contact learning support staff such as your tutor to assist you with your study skills.  Refer to your learning resources for contact details.

How do I know how much time to spend on each unit?
This depends on you and your individual situation and how quickly you want to complete the course. We recommended that you spend at least three hours per week on each unit.

How do I maintain motivation?
Keep motivated by building an interest in your study. Watch a video or read some articles that are related to your field of study but are not compulsory. Try studying at the local library, or your local Learning Network Queensland (LNQ) centre for a change of scenery. Keep on thinking about your long-term goals.

Where can I study besides home?
You can use your local Learning Network Queensland (LNQ) centre to study. If you cannot access an LNQ centre, try your local public library or your local school library.

Where can I get access to a computer?
Try your local school, public library or any Learning Network Queensland (LNQ) centre throughout Queensland.

What is Learning Network Queensland (LNQ)?
Learning Network Queensland (LNQ) centres provide a range of education, training and communication facilities available to distance education students and community members. Each centre is managed part-time by a specially trained Coordinator, to support you and to introduce and familiarise you with the technology available at the centre. These community-based centres provide access to a range of facilities, including computer access, meeting and study rooms, a fax machine, a photocopier and more. Nominal charges apply for certain services e.g. internet access, photocopier printing, fax transmissions. You can also use these centres for exam supervision for a nominal fee.

How do I contact my tutor?
Your tutor contact details may be displayed in your learning material information that you have received after your enrolment. Alternatively you may be contacted by your Institute to advise you who will be responsible for providing you with tutorial assistance.  If  you have not been informed of these details please contact the Customer Service Contact Centre  to assist you in obtaining this information.

What back-up support is available to me?
You will be eligible for assistance from your tutor/s, and the Student Support Services.
