Skills recognition

Skills recognition at TAFE Open Learning

Recognition of existing skills is the term used to describe a number of assessment processes resulting in the formal recognition of competencies that an individual may have achieved through formal or informal training, work experience or life experience.

A more detailed explanation for individuals interested in applying for recognition of existing skills follows.

Prior Learning

Credit transfer
Credit transfer is the process where formal documented study equivalent to that of the proposed study is recognised. Credit transfer will not be granted to a full qualification. If you think you may be eligible for credit transfer, please contact the Customer Service Contact Centre.

Mutual recognition
Mutual recognition is the process that recognises AQF Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations enabling individuals to receive national recognition of their achievements.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that recognises a student's current skills and experience regardless of where and when the learning occurred. Applications for RPL are based on whole competencies.

RPL can often help you achieve your formal qualifications in reduced study periods.

Please email or phone the Customer Service Contact Centre on 1800 657 387 if you would like assistance with how to initiate an RPL application.

Skilling Solutions Queensland
Skilling Solutions Queensland is a State Government initiative that may help you get started on an RPL application. Visit the Skilling Solutions Queensland website for more information on how they can assist you.
